Insurance, Excess & CDW
Every rental includes insurance covering third-party liability and vehicle damage, subject to standard terms. If the car is damaged, an insurance excess applies — the amount you're responsible for before insurance takes over. The exact excess depends on the vehicle and driver profile. Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is compulsory at $9/day for foreigners, drivers under 26, or drivers with less than 2 years of driving experience. For Singaporean and PR drivers aged 26 or over with at least 2 years of experience, CDW is optional at $7/day, and reduces the applicable excess. CDW is per driver, so additional drivers can each choose their own level of cover.
Breakdowns, Roadside Assistance & Accidents
Every rental includes 24-hour roadside assistance across Singapore. If the car won't start or develops a fault, call our 24-hour line and we'll arrange help or a vehicle swap so you're not stranded. If you're involved in an accident, stay safe and follow these steps:
Additional Drivers, Extensions & Vehicle Collection
You can add additional authorised drivers to your rental — each additional driver signs onto the agreement and can choose their own CDW cover, so different drivers can have different rates. Additional drivers are charged at $20 each on the booking. If you need the car for longer, contact us before your rental end time and we'll extend at the applicable rate, subject to availability. Collection and return are from our Commonwealth Lane office, and we also offer Changi Airport pick-up and drop-off on selected vehicles — let us know when booking and we'll arrange it.
Rental Payment & Deposits
AKA Car Rental is known for transparent, no-frills pricing. On standard daily, weekly and monthly rentals for local drivers using the car in Singapore, we do not hold a refundable security deposit — you pay the rental for your term, plus any applicable charges such as CDW, and drive away. Deposit requirements are not the same for everyone: foreign drivers do have a deposit, and the amount is confirmed with you before you book, so contact us to confirm the applicable deposit for your rental. Malaysia (JB) cross-border travel carries a $20/day cross-border charge plus a $200 refundable deposit held at collection, returned in full when the car comes back in the condition set out in your agreement. Rental can be settled by bank transfer or cash, and long-term plans are billed as one predictable monthly fee. There's no down payment and no COE on our leasing plans — just the rental, any applicable CDW, and your running costs (fuel, ERP, parking).
No Deposit Car Rental in Singapore
One of the most common questions we get is whether we charge a deposit — and for standard local rentals, the answer is no. On standard daily, weekly and monthly rentals for local Singapore use we do not hold a refundable security deposit, so no large sum is tied up while you have the car. That is not the same as saying a deposit never applies: foreign drivers do have a deposit, and the amount is confirmed before booking.
