Who Can Rent a Car from AKA
We rent to a wide range of drivers, and our team will help you find a vehicle you're legally allowed to drive. Here's what you need to know before booking:
Insurance, Excess & the Optional CDW
Every rental includes insurance covering third-party liability and vehicle damage, subject to standard terms. If the car is damaged, an insurance excess applies — the amount you're responsible for before insurance takes over. The exact excess depends on the vehicle and driver profile. To reduce your out-of-pocket risk, optional Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is available at $7/day or $9/day depending on the vehicle, which lowers your excess significantly. For international drivers, CDW is $9/day. CDW is per driver, so additional drivers can each choose their own level of cover.
Breakdowns, Roadside Assistance & Accidents
Every rental includes 24-hour roadside assistance across Singapore. If the car won't start or develops a fault, call our 24-hour line and we'll arrange help or a vehicle swap so you're not stranded. If you're involved in an accident, stay safe and follow these steps:
Additional Drivers, Extensions & Vehicle Collection
You can add additional authorised drivers to your rental — each additional driver signs onto the agreement and can choose their own CDW cover, so different drivers can have different rates. Additional drivers are charged at $20 each on the booking. If you need the car for longer, contact us before your rental end time and we'll extend at the applicable rate, subject to availability. Collection and return are from our Commonwealth Lane office, and we also offer Changi Airport pick-up and drop-off on selected vehicles — let us know when booking and we'll arrange it.
Rental Payment & Deposits
AKA Car Rental is known for transparent, no-frills pricing. In general, we do not require a refundable security deposit — you pay your rental and drive away. We only hold a refundable deposit in specific situations, such as Malaysia (JB) cross-border usage or other special circumstances agreed at booking; any deposit held is returned in full when the car comes back in the condition set out in your agreement. Rental can be settled by bank transfer or cash, and long-term plans are billed as one predictable monthly fee. There's no down payment and no COE on our leasing plans — just the rental and your running costs (fuel, ERP, parking).
No Deposit Car Rental in Singapore
One of the most common questions we get is whether we charge a deposit — and for most rentals, the answer is no. AKA Car Rental is one of the few car rental companies in Singapore that does not require a refundable security deposit on standard rentals. You pay your rental fee and drive away, with no large sum tied up while you have the car. This sets us apart from most rental companies that hold hundreds or thousands of dollars as a deposit for the duration of your rental. Our no-deposit policy means your money stays in your account — you only pay for the rental itself.
